PARENTAL DISCLAIMER & WAIVER OF LIABILITY

The W.O.W. Project – Design Classes for Children Ages 6-11

We are excited to welcome your child to the design sessions at The W.O.W. Project! Our classes are designed to ignite creativity, foster imagination, and provide a fun learning experience in a safe and nurturing environment. While we take every care to ensure a positive experience, participation involves inherent risks. Please read and acknowledge the following:

1. Assumption of Risk

I, the undersigned parent or legal guardian, understand that participation in creative activities —including the use of paints, craft tools, scissors (child-safe), glue (including hot glue), various media, all associated with cooking risks including the use of the oven (at high level) and other materials — may involve minor, inherent risks such as messed up clothes, skin irritation, minor burns, or accidental scrapes or bumps. I voluntarily accept full responsibility for any such risks associated with my child’s participation. I acknowledge that accidents or unforeseen incidents may occur, and I agree that The W.O.W. Project shall not be held liable or responsible for any injury, loss, or damage that may occur to my child or I during or because of participation in the activity.

2. Participation Requirement

I acknowledge and agree that active participation in the class by my child is key. I understand that should my child choose not to participate in the activities of the class they may remain in the room subject to being disruptive to the class leader or to the learning of others. I acknowledge that should my child be disruptive to the learning of themselves or others attending, I will be contacted and will be required to pick up the child as soon as possible.

3. Drop-Off Policy for Children Aged 6 to 11 Years

For children aged 6 to 9 years, The W.O.W. Project allows for independent attendance in class, provided that the child can follow instructions, participating actively, and staying focused throughout the session. I understand that I am required to drop off my child at The W.O.W. Project and will ensure that they are appropriately prepared for the class.

Once dropped off, the child will be expected to participate independently, but I acknowledge that The W.O.W. Project will still provide supervision and guidance throughout the session. I understand that, although my child is not required to have a guardian present, The W.O.W. Project is not responsible for my child’s actions once they have been dropped off and that they are expected to follow all the class rules and guidelines independently and respect the class leader and other children learning.

I also understand that children in this age group (6 to 11 years) may experience varied behaviors from other children, which can include unpredictable actions or interactions. As each child develops at their own pace, responses and behaviors may differ, and certain interactions between children may not always be foreseen or controlled. I accept that such unpredictability is a natural part of working with children at different developmental stages, and I agree to support my child in managing these experiences.

To ensure my child’s comfort and well-being during the class:

  • Food and Hydration: I will provide enough food and a water bottle for my child, as these will not be provided. I understand that my child should have enough to sustain them through the duration of the class held between 8:30am until 5:30pm.
  • Toilet Facilities: The toilets are located via an outdoor stair from the premises. While children will be supervised by staff when using the toilets, staff will not enter the toilet rooms. My child must be sufficiently independent to manage their own toilet needs, including undressing, wiping, and dressing themselves. I understand that this policy ensures safety while still promoting the child’s independence.
  • Appropriate Clothing: I will ensure that my child is dressed in appropriate clothing that are comfortable and are ok to be exposed to glue/paint and other design materials involved and required to be used at the class. I will ensure that my child has appropriate clothing with them (a raincoat or an umbrella) in case of adverse weather to be able to go to the toilet via an outdoor stair.

Additionally, I understand that timely drop-off and pick-up are essential for the success of the class. Arriving on time allows my child to fully engage in the activities and ensures they do not miss important parts of the session. Likewise, punctual pick-up is important to maintain a smooth transition for The W.O.W. Project and for the child’s continued well-being. Late/early arrivals or pick-ups may disrupt the flow of the class and affect the experience of all participants (unless agreed prior in writing).

It remains my responsibility to ensure my child’s safety during drop-off and pick-up, and I will inform the Centre of any special needs or considerations that might affect their participation.

4. Health & Allergies

I confirm that I have disclosed (see below) all known allergies, health concerns, or special needs my child may have. While The W.O.W. Project will take reasonable precautions, I understand that the organizers cannot be held liable for allergic reactions or medical incidents unless gross negligence is involved.

Please let us know below any allergies, health concerns or special needs that your child requires:

5. First Aid Waiver

I authorize the staff of The W.O.W. Project to administer basic first aid (e.g., cleaning scrapes, applying band-aids, ice packs) in the event of minor injuries. I authorize the staff at The W.O.W. Project to offer comfort (hold hand, a hug) and emotional support to the child should they ask for it. In the case of a medical emergency, I give permission for The W.O.W. Project to seek professional medical assistance and/or contact emergency services. I accept full responsibility for any resulting medical costs and will not hold the Centre or its staff liable for any outcomes from reasonable first aid or emergency care.

6. Liability Waiver

In consideration of my child’s participation, I hereby release, waive, and hold harmless The W.O.W. Project, its owners, staff, volunteers, and affiliates from any and all claims of liability, damages, or demands resulting from injury, illness, property damage, or loss during or related to the program, except in cases of proven gross negligence.

7. Nature of the Class (Mix of Ages)

I understand that the classes at The W.O.W. Project are designed for children aged 6 to 11 years old, and as a result, the class may include a mix of developmental stages, abilities, and speeds of reaction. I acknowledge that children may not interact in a predictable manner, and that the speed at which children engage with materials or follow instructions may differ from child to child. I accept this variability and understand that it is a natural aspect of the group dynamic, which can contribute to a rich and diverse learning experience.

8. Inclusivity & Abilities-Based Grouping

The W.O.W. Project warmly welcomes all ages, abilities, and genders. Each class is designed with knowledge and understanding of human development at each stage. However, as each child is unique, there may be natural variations in how a particular child fits into the age group that is typically recommended for the class. The abilities and developmental stage of the child are the primary factors when determining suitability for each class, not strictly their age. Please review the class descriptions carefully and consider your child’s abilities before selecting the most appropriate class, rather than focusing solely on the age group. This approach is inclusive and aims to ensure that each child has a fulfilling and enjoyable experience.

9. Immersive Experience & Environmental Factors

I understand that the nature of The W.O.W. Project classes is to provide an immersive experience, where children are encouraged to fully engage with the materials, themes, and activities. Some of the activities may involve variations in lighting, sound, and temperature to create the desired atmosphere and enhance the overall experience. I acknowledge that these changes are part of the intended experience.

I further understand that information regarding any proposed theme, as well as any changes in lighting, sound, and temperature, will be provided prior to the start of each class. This will allow me to make any necessary preparations and ensure my child is comfortable with the environment.

10. Refund Policy

I acknowledge that due to the immersive nature of the classes, there may be instances where my child feels discomfort or unease with certain elements of the program. I understand that such experiences are part of the learning process. Refunds will not be issued for any activities that my child may not have been comfortable with or that did not meet their expectations. I agree to support my child in embracing these experiences and to work with The W.O.W. Project's staff to help them navigate any challenges.

The wellbeing of my child and all children attending The W.O.W. Project is a priority. Therefore, I will not attend any session knowing that my child is ill in order not to impose health risks on anyone else at The W.O.W. Project.

Therefore, classes may be cancelled at any time due to an unforeseen illness of staff members or an ill child attendance (when the premises will need to be thoroughly disinfected). In such cases, The W.O.W. Project cannot be held liable for these occurrences.

Classes missed due to The W.O.W. Project's closure will be considered as unused and can be rescheduled at any other suitable session, subject to availability. It is my responsibility to check availability for rescheduled sessions. The W.O.W. Project cannot guarantee a spot if a class is fully booked. I understand that there is a Waiting List available should I wish to attend a particular session.

11. Cancellation, Missed Classes, and Frequent Absences

I understand that, as with any program involving young children, there may be times when it is not possible to attend class due to reasons such as illness, a difficult morning, a late nap, or other personal circumstances. We appreciate being notified as soon as possible if my child will miss a class.

Cancellations are welcome at no cost, and we offer the flexibility for missed classes to be rescheduled at a time convenient for me, subject to availability. I understand that the responsibility to check for availability of alternate sessions rests with me, and that the Centre cannot be held responsible if a class is full and unable to accommodate my child. The W.O.W. Project offers plenty of sessions on different days (please refer to the schedule) and maintains a waiting list in case the current schedule does not provide a session suitable for my time.

I acknowledge and agree that if more than three cancellations occur within a calendar month, all future cancellations that month will be deducted from the package of classes.

12. Presentation Time Etiquette

I understand that during presentation time, a quiet and respectful atmosphere is necessary to ensure all children can hear and understand the presentation clearly to be able to follow the flow of the class. I agree to explain this to my child prior to the class starting.
